Puerto Rico’s safety crisis was created by the present corrupt government dismantling the safety net most modern cities have. While the rich in Puerto Rico have giant gates and fences plus private security in their homes, the middle class has very little safety. While the rich go out in secure cars, the poor try to use what is left of the public transportation system, risking their lives and safety. Walking the streets is safe depending on when, and where. Metropolitan areas, the supposed hope for the tourist industry, are exposed to danger when dark. Go out and get yourself seen and heard on the 16th of January of 2019, or prepare yourselves for more cuts to essential services for the next 40 years. Give youth a better future. Do not force them to abandon the island.
