Freda Kahlo -“Mascaras (Carma I)” at Brooklyn Museum

Freda Kahlo exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, February 2019, Notes from Museum exhibit for “Mascaras (Carma I”

Sepia ink on paper, from the The Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection of 20th Century Mexican Art and The Vergel Collection:

“Kahlo’s drawings and diary entries from the last decade of her life incorporate the Surrealist practice of automatic drawing and Hindu concepts postulating the interconnectedness of all beings. In these drawings, various doodles and stains spark imaginative visual images that emerge spontaneously. Eyes, masks, feet, ant the ring-yang symbol appear frequently in her drawings.”
